The Charlie Bates Solar Astronomy Project was founded in 2008 by Stephen W. Ramsden of Atlanta, GA in memory of friend and fellow air traffic controller / veteran Charlie Bates. It has become the world's highest volume astronomy outreach program — reaching over 250,000 people per year at hundreds of events in 27 countries and counting. Ramsden has a simple mission; use observatory quality narrowband solar telescopes in a professional and safe environment to spark an interest in the sciences among students and the public.

The eclipse glasses provided by Rainbow Symphony are absolutely safe for direct solar viewing of solar eclipses, sunspots, and other solar phenomenon. All of our solar viewing materials are optical density 5 or greater and are CE certified to meet the transmission requirements of scale 12-16 of EN 169/1992. Our eclipse glasses also meet the 2012 Transmission Requirements of EN 1836:2005 & AS/NZS 1338.1:1992 for Eclipse filters (Queensland Directive).
We take safety even further with lenses made from exclusive scratch resistant "Black Polymer" material to filter out 100% of harmful ultra-violet, 100% of harmful infrared, and 99.999% of intense visible light. Safety instructions are printed on the back of the glasses.
